Crypto in Ferizaj, where Kosovo’s first licence landed
Ferizaj (Uroševac) is home to CoinPrime, the only crypto operator on the Central Bank of Kosovo’s licence list. The town has two ATMs and three offices, and it is also where Kosovo’s best-known USDT cash scam of 2026 took place.

Ferizaj, with 109,255 residents in the 2024 census, has more crypto points than any Kosovo town except Pristina: two ATMs and three walk-in offices. Its real significance, though, is regulatory. CoinPrime SH.P.K., the one crypto company on the licence list of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), is registered here. And it was here, in April 2026, that three would-be buyers lost €12,000 at a cash meetup for USDT.

Why a mid-sized town holds Kosovo’s only crypto licence
Kosovo’s crypto law (Law No. 08/L-295, in the Official Gazette since 22 November 2024) requires anyone exchanging crypto for euros to hold a CBK licence. The CBK’s detailed regulation came into force on 29 November 2025, with a deadline of 1 March 2026 to apply. When the CBK published its list of financial institutions on 9 July 2026, one crypto-asset service operator appeared: CoinPrime SH.P.K., Vëllezërit Gërvalla street, Ferizaj. KosovaPress reported it the same day as Kosovo’s first licensed crypto company. On the list of 15 October 2026, it is still the only one. SeeNews describes it as the local unit of a North Macedonia-based firm; we have not confirmed that link ourselves.
The licence has teeth. Operators need at least €125,000 in capital, a registered office in Kosovo, an anti-money-laundering programme, segregated client funds and a complaints procedure. For a customer, that means a regulator to turn to if something goes wrong at the Vëllezërit Gërvalla office. Our guide to Kosovo’s crypto law explains what the licence does and does not cover.
What happened in the April 2026 USDT scam
Before the addresses, the cautionary tale, because it shapes how you should buy in Ferizaj. According to police and prosecutors, as reported by Koha, KosovaPress and KoSSev:
- Three people looking to buy with cash meet the “sellers” at a bar in Ferizaj. According to reports, the buyers are led into a room and the money is taken through a hole in a cabinet. €12,000 disappears; no USDT is ever sent.
- The same group is suspected of attempting a similar €50,000 scheme in Kaçanik.
- Police arrest the suspects.
- An indictment is filed.
Nothing about it was high-tech. No wallet was hacked and no blockchain was broken. The victims brought cash because they wanted a slightly better rate or a purchase without ID checks, and they walked away with neither money nor crypto. Other patterns seen in Kosovo, from fake investment call centres to SMS messages impersonating banks, are covered in crypto scams in Kosovo.
Where to buy crypto in Ferizaj: five verified points
Vëllezërit Gërvalla street is unusual: it hosts both CoinPrime’s headquarters, with its ATM, and exCoins’ “Ferizaj Qendër” office. exCoins’ second office is on Sali Çeku street. Its ATM is not in town but at the HIB Petrol 4 station in Bibaj, on the main Ferizaj–Gjilan road, so you pass it if you drive in from Gjilan.

CBK licenceA few practical differences. The exCoins offices open at 09:00, an hour before CoinPrime, but the Sali Çeku branch closes at 17:00. CoinPrime’s ATM offers only BTC, ETH and LTC; the Bibaj machine adds USDT. The exCoins website converter shows a 2% commission; CoinPrime publishes only its 1% commission on bank-transfer purchases, not its office or ATM fees. exCoins does not appear on the CBK list dated 15 October 2026.
Searches for “crypto Ferizaj” also bring up exchange shops that exist only as social-media pages, such as Capital Exchange and Winex. They are not on the CBK list, and we could not verify their addresses, fees or terms. Our overview of crypto exchange offices in Kosovo covers the verified networks nationwide.
How the €1,000 cash rule works at the counter
The CBK regulation sets two thresholds you will notice in person. From €1,000 upwards, the operator must verify your identity (). And amounts above €1,000, or several linked transactions within 24 hours that add up to more, can no longer be paid in cash; they must go through a bank account.
CoinPrime goes further: it asks for ID on every amount, even below €1,000, and its €1,000 daily cash cap is counted across all its ATMs and offices. Buy €600 at the Ferizaj ATM in the morning and you can only pay €400 in cash at its Pristina office that afternoon. For bigger purchases, CoinPrime accepts bank transfers at 1% commission. That cap is also exactly why unlicensed sellers advertise “cash, no questions”, and that is where the risk begins.
Buying safely in Ferizaj
The rules are simple, and each one follows from the April case:
- Buy only at an office or ATM with a published address, never in a bar, car or flat.
- Check the CBK register before trusting anyone who says they are “licensed”.
- Never hand over cash before the coins are in your own wallet and confirmed.
- Above €1,000, pay from a bank account; a legitimate operator has no need for your envelope of cash.
If you want USDT close to the market rate, marketplaces on Binance or OKX use , so the seller’s coins are locked until your payment arrives. That does not remove every risk, but it is a world away from a back room with a cabinet. See P2P crypto in Kosovo for current premiums and pitfalls.
Selling crypto for euros in Ferizaj
Ferizaj is one of the easier places in Kosovo to cash out, because both ATMs accept sales. The CoinPrime machine buys back BTC, ETH and LTC and pays out against an SMS code. The exCoins machine in Bibaj buys back BTC and LTC, at around 5.2% according to Coin ATM Radar. At the offices you can also sell USDT, XRP and TRX.
For larger sums, the cheapest routes are selling on an online platform and withdrawing euros to your Kosovo bank account by , or selling to CoinPrime with a bank payout. Do not forget tax: Kosovo’s Tax Administration treats crypto profits as income, taxed at 0%, 8% or 10% depending on your annual total. Work through examples in our Kosovo crypto tax guide and compare exits on the cash-out page.
Hani i Elezit and the Bitomat in Skopje
From Ferizaj the road runs through Kaçanik to the Hani i Elezit border crossing and on to Skopje, about 90 km from Pristina. In Skopje’s East Gate Mall (Belasitsa 2, level −2) is the Bitomat, the nearest crypto ATM outside Kosovo. It opens 10:00–22:00, accepts euros and Macedonian denars, and sells BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT and USDC. The on purchases is around 6%, and the machine scans your ID.
Is it worth it? For someone living in Ferizaj, rarely. The town’s own machines are closer and reported cheaper, and North Macedonia has no crypto law yet, so there is less protection if something goes wrong. It makes sense only if you are in Skopje anyway, say for a flight. For neighbouring towns, see crypto in Gjilan, crypto in Pristina or the Kosovo crypto map.
