Bitcoin in Gjilan: a licensed ATM and two offices
Gjilan (Gnjilane) is one of only three Kosovo cities with an ATM run by the country’s single CBK-licensed crypto operator. There is also an exCoins office for USDT, with different ID rules.

Gjilan, home to 82,980 people according to the 2024 census, has three confirmed places to buy or sell crypto: a CoinPrime ATM and office on Adem Jashari street, and an exCoins office on Abdullah Tahiri street. That makes it the third city in Kosovo, after Pristina and Ferizaj, with a machine run by the only crypto operator licensed by the Central Bank. Use the calculator above to see what an ATM markup costs compared with buying online.
Gjilan at a glance: who does what
The two operators in town differ less on price than on paperwork. CoinPrime is the only crypto company on the list of licensed institutions published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK) on 15 October 2026. That licence comes with obligations: it checks your ID on every transaction, even for €20, and caps cash at €1,000 per 24 hours across all its locations in Kosovo. exCoins is not on that CBK list, and its website does not publish limits or ID rules.
In practice: if you want the protections a licence brings, such as a regulated complaints process and client money held in segregated accounts, go to CoinPrime and bring your ID card or passport. If you need USDT, XRP or TRX, or want a shop that opens an hour earlier, exCoins is the one. Full addresses and hours are below.

CBK licenceUsing the licensed ATM on Adem Jashari street
The CoinPrime machine runs around the clock and handles three coins: BTC, ETH and LTC. There is no USDT on this ATM. Every purchase starts with an identity check (), so do not turn up without your ID. Then you insert euros, scan your wallet’s QR code and the coins are sent to the blockchain.
One gap worth knowing about: CoinPrime does not publish its ATM or office fees on its website, even though the CBK regulation requires operators to display prices and fees at offices, at ATMs and online. The only published figure is the 1% commission on bank-transfer purchases. Read the rate on the screen carefully before you confirm. The calculator at the top of this page uses 4.8%, the figure reported for exCoins ATMs, as a benchmark; drag the slider to match what you actually see. For every machine in the country, see our Kosovo Bitcoin ATM guide.
Selling crypto for euros in Gjilan
The CoinPrime ATM also pays out euros, but not the way a bank ATM does. You pick “sell”, send the coins from your wallet to the address the machine shows, and wait for a by SMS. Type that code into the ATM and it dispenses the cash. With Bitcoin, allow a few minutes for the network to confirm the transfer.
The exCoins office also buys crypto back over the counter, and its range is wider. For larger amounts, selling on an online platform and withdrawing to your Kosovo bank account avoids carrying cash and usually costs less. Keep records: Kosovo’s Tax Administration treats crypto profits as taxable income. All exit routes are compared in selling crypto for cash in Kosovo.
The exCoins office on Abdullah Tahiri street
exCoins Gjilan is open Monday to Saturday, 09:00–18:00, and carries the widest choice of coins in town: BTC, ETH, USDT, XRP, TRX and LTC, both buying and selling. The converter on the exCoins website shows a 2% commission, which usually makes the office cheaper than any ATM for small and mid-sized amounts.
When buying USDT, double-check the network. Most offices send USDT on because the is low. If your wallet expects USDT on Ethereum or BSC and you hand over the wrong address, the money may be gone for good.
Why does the licence matter? Since 1 March 2026, exchanging crypto for euros without a CBK licence breaks Kosovo law, and in July 2026 the market inspectorate and the tax administration closed and fined several businesses on the first day of checks. We do not know whether exCoins has a pending application; we only report that it is not on the list. The full legal picture is in is crypto legal in Kosovo.
The HIB Petrol ATM that we could not confirm
Search Coin ATM Radar for Gjilan and you will see a machine listed at a HIB Petrol station in town. It is not on exCoins’ official list of five ATMs as of 20 October 2026, and we could not confirm it exists. It may be a stale listing or a machine that has been removed. Until we can confirm it, do not make a special trip.
The closest confirmed exCoins machine for Gjilan residents is at HIB Petrol 4 in Bibaj, on the main Ferizaj–Gjilan road. It sells BTC, ETH, LTC and USDT and buys back BTC and LTC.
What a €300 purchase costs in Gjilan
Here is how the three routes compare for a typical €300 purchase. Costs are as published or reported on 20 October 2026; where an operator publishes nothing, we say so.
| Route | Cost | ID check | Cash limit | Coins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoinPrime ATM, Adem Jashari | Not published | Always | €1,000 / 24h | BTC, ETH, LTC |
| exCoins office, Abdullah Tahiri | ≈2% (≈€6) | Not published | Not published | BTC, ETH, USDT, XRP, TRX, LTC |
| Online platform, bank transfer | ≈0.25% (≈€0.75) + bank fee | Always | No cash | Hundreds of coins |
At €300 the office costs about €6 and an online platform about €0.75, plus whatever your bank charges for an outgoing payment. The gap widens as amounts grow. If you have never bought online, follow our step-by-step guide to buying Bitcoin.
Kamenica, Bibaj and the road to Ferizaj
Gjilan is the main town of the Anamorava region in eastern Kosovo. If you live in Kamenica (Kamenicë), you do not need to come to Gjilan for a cash purchase: exCoins has an office on Syle Zarbinca street there. Kamenica has no confirmed ATM; Coin ATM Radar lists one, but the operator does not.
HIB Petrol 4 (Bibaj)
Not on CBK listexCoins Kamenicë
Not on CBK listHeading west towards Ferizaj, the exCoins ATM at HIB Petrol 4 in Bibaj is on your way. Ferizaj itself hosts CoinPrime’s headquarters and two exCoins offices, covered on our Ferizaj crypto page. Kamenica and Kosovo’s other smaller towns are on the other towns page, and the whole country is on the crypto map of Kosovo.
Across the border: the Preševo valley, Serbia and Skopje
Gjilan is the largest town near the Dheu i Bardhë crossing into Serbia’s Preševo valley, where many local families have relatives. Serbia does have a licensed crypto operator, ECD, with points in Belgrade and Novi Sad, charging about 6.2% plus 500 dinars on purchases and requiring a verified account. Those are a long way from the valley, though. Bear in mind too that Serbia does not recognise Kosovo’s crossings as an international point of entry for foreign nationals.
Gjilan is also close to North Macedonia. The nearest crypto ATM outside Kosovo is the Bitomat in Skopje’s East Gate Mall, with a buy spread of around 6% and an ID scan. For most Gjilan residents that is dearer than the ATM on Adem Jashari street, and only worth it if you are in Skopje anyway.
